amberSearch costs €9.99 per user per month in the Starter tier, €13.99 in Professional, €17.99 in Business, and individual pricing in Enterprise. But the headline number is misleading in one specific way: the €9.99 Starter tier cannot connect a single system, and the product called amberSearch is not part of it. If you want the knowledge platform that connects your existing tools, you need Professional, and Professional has a 50-user minimum. That puts the realistic entry cost at €699.50 per month, not €9.99.
This is not a hit piece. amberSearch is a real, funded product from Aachen with hundreds of customers, and for the right company it is a sensible choice. But the €9.99 figure has spread across review sites without the caveat that makes it meaningful, and that is worth correcting. Every number below is taken from the vendor's own pricing page, checked in July 2026.
What does amberSearch actually cost?
amberSearch sells four per-seat tiers. Two of them carry a 50-user minimum and one carries a 500-user minimum, which means the advertised per-user price and the price you actually pay are different numbers for most teams.
The vendor describes Professional as the tier for größere Teams, welche eine interne KI-Suche und Systemintegrationen benötigen
(larger teams that need internal AI search and system integrations). That sentence is the whole story: internal AI search and system integrations start at Professional. Starter is a separate, simpler product that happens to share the price list. If you are evaluating amberSearch as an AI context layer that connects your existing tools, Starter is not the tier you are looking at.
The four tiers in detail
Read the Connectable systems
column first. In the vendor's own comparison table, that row is filled in for Professional ('Bis zu 10'), Business ('Bis zu 20') and Enterprise ('Über 20'). For Starter it is blank. A blank in a feature-comparison table means zero, and zero connected systems means no context layer.
Volume discounts kick in automatically from 100 users, so larger deployments pay less per seat than the list price. That is a genuine plus, and it points at who this product is built for.
Not sure which tier you actually need?
Before you compare price tags, work out which systems you need connected and who needs access. Our free AI readiness assessment walks you through it in about 10 minutes.
What the €9.99 tier cannot do
The Starter tier is a chat assistant, not a knowledge platform. It includes amberAI, amberAgents, unlimited chat and assistant usage, a 30-day trial, up to 10 deep-research LLM runs per user per month, up to 50 image generations, a basic insights dashboard, personalised AI memory, SSO login, ISO 27001 and GDPR compliance.
What it does not include: any connected system, and amberSearch itself. You can upload documents and chat with them. You cannot point it at your SharePoint, your ERP, or your ticket system. That is a reasonable product. It is simply not the product the name promises, and it is not what most people mean when they go looking to break down their data silos.
Where the €9.99 figure travels. Capterra Deutschland lists amberSearch with a Startpreis: 9,99 €
and, at the time of writing, a rating from 0 users. Comparison sites reproduce the entry price because that is the field the form asks for. Nothing there tells a buyer that the €9.99 tier connects no systems. If you are building a shortlist from review-site price fields, you are comparing numbers that do not describe the same product.
Starter (€9.99) is enough if you want…
Starter is not enough if you want…
The real entry cost: €699.50 per month
If you want connected systems, the minimum you can spend is €699.50 per month, or €8,394 per year. That is Professional at €13.99 multiplied by the 50-user minimum. You pay for 50 seats whether or not 50 people use it.
For a 200-person manufacturer this is unremarkable, and roughly what a knowledge platform should cost. For an 18-person agency it means paying for 32 seats nobody logs into. The per-user headline of €13.99 quietly becomes €38.86 per actual user at 18 people. This is the arithmetic that seat minimums do, and it is why the entry price on a review site tells you almost nothing about your invoice.
Count the systems, not the seats
Write down every source the tool must reach: SharePoint, ERP, CRM, ticketing, file shares. Up to 10 puts you in Professional, over 10 in Business, over 20 in Enterprise. This choice sets your tier before headcount does.
Apply the minimum, not your headcount
If you have fewer than 50 people, multiply by 50 anyway. Professional = 50 × 13,99 € = 699,50 €/month. Business = 50 × 17,99 € = 899,50 €/month. Enterprise requires 500 users.
Add the token budget
Agents and automations run on token packages on top of the seat price: Core €100, Advanced €250 or Growth €500 per month. Budget one of these if agents are part of your business case.
Divide by the people who will actually log in
Take your real monthly total and divide by real users. That number, not the list price, is what you compare against alternatives. Below roughly 50 users, it will be well above the advertised €13.99.
Worked example, 20-person company, 6 systems. Professional is the right tier on systems (6 ≤ 10). Seats: 50 × 13,99 € = 699,50 €/month, because 20 < 50. Add Core tokens (€100) for agents = 799,50 €/month. Per actual user: 39,98 €, not 13,99 €. Same tool, same page, four times the advertised price.
Token budgets: the second price tag
Agents and automations are billed separately from seats. amberSearch sells token budgets as add-ons in three sizes: Core at €100 per month for small teams and basic workflows, Advanced at €250 for scaling across departments and deep research, and Growth at €500 for company-wide agents with developer support.
The important line is this one: Diese Token-Pakete sind ein Add-on und benötigen einen aktiven nutzerbasierten Plan (Professional, Business oder Enterprise).
Token packages are an add-on requiring an active Professional, Business or Enterprise plan. There is no usage-based route that bypasses the 50-user minimum. The €10 monthly token allowance, meanwhile, applies to alle Pläne außer Starter
(all plans except Starter). Consumption pricing here sits on top of seat pricing rather than replacing it, which is a fair model, but it is a second number to budget for and it is on a separate page from the first one.
Who is amberSearch actually right for?
For manufacturing and industrial companies above roughly 50 people, amberSearch is a credible choice, and the pricing structure makes sense for them. The company behind it, ambeRoad Tech from Aachen, was founded in 2021 by RWTH Aachen graduates and raised a €2.1 million seed round led in part by Ventech, as reported by the Aachener Zeitung. It counts 200+ SME customers across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, including RAG, Zentis, Ritter Sport, RSM Ebner Stolz and Deutsche Telekom's T-Cloud, and advertises 70+ integrations.
The positioning is explicit and worth taking at face value: Europas Business KI
for Teams, die Maschinen bauen
(teams that build machines). Processing runs on servers in Germany and Europe, with ISO 27001, GDPR and EU AI Act compliance claimed, and existing access rights honoured ('Zugriffsrechte werden berücksichtigt'). That is a serious data sovereignty story and a genuine permission architecture commitment, and it holds up.
The mismatch is only at the small end. A 50-user floor is not an oversight, it is a deliberate statement about who the product serves. If you build machines and employ 200 people, none of this is a problem. If you are 15 people, the €9.99 you saw quoted was never for you.
Check your AI governance before you sign
Seat minimums are the easy part. Whether a tool respects your existing access rights, and whether your works council will approve it, decides more. Free governance assessment, no email wall.
Alternatives for small teams
If you have fewer than 50 people and want connected systems, you are shopping in a thin market. Most context-layer vendors are built for the enterprise and price accordingly. Glean has no public list prices at all and works from 100-seat minimums, and the pattern repeats across the category: the cheap tier is a chatbot, the real product starts at a floor. It is worth understanding how enterprise search differs from a context layer before you compare any two price lists, because the words are used loosely and the products are not the same.
Our own tool sits deliberately at that small end: teamo connects your existing systems from the first seat at 9,97 € per user, with no minimum. A 15-person company pays for 15 seats. We are not the right answer for a 500-person industrial group, where amberSearch's depth and 70+ integrations will serve better. The honest split is size and shape, not quality. If you are working out which side of that line you sit on, our AI strategy guide for the Mittelstand covers the decision, and the vendor lock-in risks worth checking before any signature.

The short version
amberSearch costs 9,99 € per user, and that number is close to meaningless for most buyers.
• The 9,99 € Starter tier connects zero systems and does not include amberSearch itself. It is a GDPR-compliant chat assistant, and a decent one.
• Connected systems start at Professional, 13,99 € with a 50-user minimum, so the real floor is 699,50 €/month (8.394 €/year).
• Under 50 people you pay for seats nobody uses: a 20-person company pays 39,98 € per actual user, not 13,99 €.
• Agents need token packages on top: 100 € / 250 € / 500 € per month, and they require Professional or above.
• Review sites reproduce Startpreis 9,99 €
without the caveat. Capterra DE shows the price and 0 reviews.
• It is a good product for the right buyer: 200+ DACH customers, 2,1 Mio. € seed, German and EU servers, access rights respected, built for teams above 50 who build machines.
