nele.ai review at a glance: public user reviews are still scarce (OMR Reviews: none yet, as of 14 October 2026); what sets nele.ai apart from almost every competitor is its pricing without any cost per person, from €10 a month for 1,000 credits.

nele.ai is a German AI platform that gives a whole organisation access to several large language models (GPT, Claude, Gemini, Mistral) through one interface, and bills by usage instead of by user: you buy a monthly volume of credits and any number of colleagues share it. It is developed by GAL Digital GmbH in Hungen (Mittelhessen, Germany). Per the vendor's pricing page (as of 14 October 2026), entry starts at €10 per month for 1,000 credits, and the page states that there are no costs per user.

That pricing model is the real story of every nele.ai review. Per-seat platforms charge the same for the colleague who asks two questions a month and the one who feeds it fifty pages a day. Usage-based pricing charges for what is actually processed. Which one is cheaper depends on two numbers you can estimate in an afternoon: how intensively your people use AI and which models they use. This review walks through the prices as published, what one credit buys per model, and three worked examples for 10, 50 and 200 people, with every assumption stated.

What nele.ai is and who is behind it

According to its legal notice, nele.ai is operated by GAL Digital GmbH, Hungen (Mittelhessen), registered at the Amtsgericht Gießen under HRB 8432. Per the vendor, the company was founded 19 years ago and has a team of around 40 developers, prompt engineers and designers.

What you get, per vendor: a web app plus native desktop apps for macOS and Windows, add-ins for Word and Excel, an API with customer-created keys, optional single sign-on via SAML 2.0, a library of more than 300 prompts, guided assistant prompts that ask for the information they need, and knowledge bases (PDF, Word, Excel, EPUB, web URLs) that answer with sources. An optional pseudonymisation filter removes personal data before processing as far as it is technically recognisable. A separate admin portal manages accounts, models and knowledge bases.

The model list (vendor page dated 7 October 2026) is broad: current GPT generations via Microsoft Azure in Europe, Claude and Gemini models hosted in Europe, several Mistral models, and additionally the same GPT and Claude models directly from OpenAI and Anthropic with US hosting. The vendor describes the platform as GDPR-compliant and ISO 27001-certified. The positioning is organisations and the German Mittelstand; the only public-sector reference on the homepage is the city of Bad Nauheim, and the pricing page mentions special rates for educational institutions on request.

nele.ai pricing 2026: the credit tiers

nele.ai sells monthly AI volume in 26 steps from 1,000 to 750,000 credits. All prices are net plus VAT, cancellable monthly, and the volume can be raised at any time in the admin interface; a reduction takes effect at the end of the billing period. Payment is by direct debit or credit card, invoice only for administrations and public authorities. The important detail is the price per 1,000 credits: it falls from €10 in the smallest package to €5 from 100,000 credits upward. A selection, as of 14 October 2026:

Credits per monthPrice per month (excl. VAT)Price per 1,000 credits
1,000€10.00€10.00
5,000€47.50€9.50
10,000€90.00€9.00
20,000€160.00€8.00
30,000€225.00€7.50
50,000€350.00€7.00
75,000€450.00€6.00
100,000€500.00€5.00
150,000€750.00€5.00
300,000€1,500.00€5.00
750,000€3,750.00€5.00

A credit is not a message. Per the vendor, consumption depends on the model and on the number of words sent and received. The pricing page states how far the smallest package of 1,000 credits goes per model; larger packages scale linearly. The vendor counts one DIN A4 page as roughly 277 words. The spread between models is the single biggest lever on your bill: the same 1,000 credits cover around 2.5 million words with GPT-5 mini but around 65,000 with Claude Opus.

Two things to check in the trial. First, which model your colleagues actually pick: a team that defaults to Opus consumes roughly four times the credits of a team on Sonnet. Second, how long conversations get. Words sent include everything the model has to read, so a long chat or an attached 40-page PDF costs more than the short question on top of it. The knowledge base (€19.95 per month, 2 GB, documents up to 20 MB) is a flat add-on on top of the credit volume.

ModelWords per 1,000 creditsA4 pages per 1,000 credits
GPT-5 mini~2,500,000~9,025
Gemini Flash~2,000,000~7,220
Gemini Pro~300,000~1,083
Claude Sonnet~280,000~1,011

Claude Opus~65,000~235

Usage-based vs per-seat: three worked examples

To compare a credit price with a seat price you need a usage assumption. Ours are assumptions, not measurements, and you should replace them with your own trial data. We split a team into three profiles and count every word the model reads and writes, including chat history and attached documents:

Occasional users (60 % of the team): 15,000 words per month, roughly a few short questions a week.
Regular users (30 %): 75,000 words per month, daily drafting, summaries and emails.
Intensive users (10 %): 400,000 words per month, long documents and analyses.

That averages 71,500 words per person and month. We then pick the smallest nele.ai package that covers the volume, because you pay for the package, not the exact consumption. The per-seat comparison uses Teamo AI at €9.97 per user per month (no minimum seats) and Langdock Business at €25 per user per month as published on its pricing page (Standard seat, excl. VAT, as of 14 October 2026).

The honest result for a mixed team: nele.ai is cheaper in almost every cell. Only a 10-person team that runs everything on Claude Opus lands above a €9.97 seat price. With 60 % occasional users, a per-seat licence pays for many seats that are barely used, and that is exactly the gap usage-based pricing closes. The larger the team, the stronger the effect, because the price per 1,000 credits halves from the smallest to the larger packages.

The picture turns when usage is intensive. Same calculation for a power team where everyone is an intensive user (400,000 words per person and month):

Claude Sonnet: 10 people €127.50, 50 people €450, 200 people €1,500. Still at or below a €9.97 seat (€99.70 / €498.50 / €1,994), except for the 10-person team.
GPT-5.4: 10 people €262.50, 50 people €1,000, 200 people €3,500. Above the €9.97 seat at every size.
Claude Opus: 10 people €450, 50 people €1,750, and 200 people exceed the largest published package (750,000 credits, €3,750).

Rule of thumb: with packages costing €5 to €9.50 per 1,000 credits, a €9.97 seat equals roughly 1,050 to 2,000 credits per person per month. On Claude Sonnet that is about 290,000 to 560,000 words, on Claude Opus about 70,000 to 130,000 words. Below that, usage-based is cheaper; above it, a seat price is.

Price is only half the comparison. Per-seat pricing wins on predictability: the bill does not move when a team discovers Opus. Per-seat plans often carry their own fair-use limits, so read those too. And compare what the price buys: a chat with prompts and knowledge bases is a different product from a platform that also works inside Slack, Teams, Jira or your CRM. Our guide to AI for small businesses shows how to size this for a small team.

Measure how your team really uses AI before you pick a pricing model

The whole calculation hangs on one number: how intensively your people use AI. Our free AI usage survey gives you the split between occasional, regular and intensive users in about 10 minutes, anonymous and EU-hosted.

nele.ai review and test: strengths, limits, user reviews

nele.ai strengths

  • No cost per user: the whole organisation can be invited from day one

  • Low entry: €10 per month, cancellable monthly, 7-day trial with 1,000 credits

  • Broad model choice incl. EU-hosted GPT, Claude, Gemini and Mistral variants

  • Public DPA, optional pseudonymisation, ISO 27001 per vendor

  • Word and Excel add-ins, desktop apps, API, SAML SSO

nele.ai limits

  • Monthly cost moves with usage and model choice; budget needs monitoring

  • Intensive use of premium models (Opus, GPT-5.4) gets expensive quickly

  • Fixed package steps: you pay the next package up, not the exact consumption

  • Some models are US-hosted; admins have to decide which ones the team may use

  • Very few independent user reviews so far

Independent feedback is thin. On OMR Reviews, the German B2B review platform, nele.ai has 0 reviews as of 14 October 2026 (the page reads: not enough reviews yet). That is not a negative signal about the product, but it means you cannot lean on other buyers' experience and should weight your own trial more heavily.

What exists are vendor-published references: per the vendor, usage at the city of Bad Nauheim doubled in each of the first three months, and the company ZEGO reports six employees using it daily at roughly €8 per employee per month. The homepage also lists a TÜV certificate and several innovation awards. Treat these as vendor statements. The useful part of the ZEGO figure is that it illustrates the pricing model: a small team with moderate use lands well below typical seat prices.

Our recommendation for the trial week: invite a realistic cross-section of the team (not only enthusiasts), leave the default model as it is, and read the credit consumption in the admin portal after seven days. Multiply by four and you have a real monthly estimate instead of ours.

nele.ai data protection: DPA, hosting, subprocessors

nele.ai publishes its data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR as a public web page, which makes a first procurement check possible without a sales call. Per the DPA, personal data is processed in an EU member state (or the EEA or Switzerland); processing in third countries is allowed if the requirements of Art. 44 ff. GDPR are met. The subprocessor list includes Microsoft Azure (incl. Azure OpenAI, Ireland), Google Cloud EMEA (Ireland), Mistral AI and Scaleway (Paris), Hetzner (Germany), and for the direct models OpenAI and Anthropic with processing in the USA under standard contractual clauses. The vendor states that user data is not used for training and offers a data protection impact assessment on request.

What that means in practice: the EU-hosted model variants and the US-hosted ones sit side by side in the same product. If your data protection officer wants EU processing only, set that in the admin portal and document it. The DSK guidance on AI and data protection is a good checklist for that decision, and our EU AI chat DPA checklist walks through the contract clauses point by point. For sensitive use cases, also check the EU AI Act.

Where nele.ai is the better choice

  • You want AI for everyone, not for a pilot group. No per-user cost means you can invite the whole organisation, including people who will use it twice a month.

  • Most usage is light to moderate. In our mixed-team example nele.ai was cheaper than every per-seat price at 50 and 200 people.

  • Your work happens in documents and Office. Word and Excel add-ins, knowledge bases with sources and a prompt library cover the classic writing and research use cases well.

  • You are a school, university or public administration. The vendor offers EDU rates on request and invoice payment for authorities, which many per-seat vendors do not.

  • You want a German vendor with a small monthly commitment. €10 per month and monthly cancellation make it easy to try without a procurement process.

The fair way to read this table: nele.ai and Teamo AI are not two prices for the same thing. nele.ai is a strong multi-model AI workspace with prompts, knowledge bases and Office add-ins, priced by consumption. Teamo AI is priced per seat because it is built as a context layer for the whole team: it connects an unlimited number of systems (Slack, Teams, Jira, Notion, HubSpot, Pipedrive, calendar, and in-house APIs via an integration assistant), runs agents across them with approval steps for anything with an external effect, and reaches people in Slack, Microsoft Teams and WhatsApp. If you mostly need a secure chat for writing and research, nele.ai may be the better and cheaper choice. If you need AI that works inside your systems, compare on that.

1

Count the people and split them into profiles

How many will use AI at all, and how many occasionally, regularly or intensively? An AI usage survey gives you the split.

2

Fix the default model

Model choice changes credit consumption by a factor of up to about 40 between GPT-5 mini and Claude Opus. Decide the default and who may use premium models.

3

Run a one-week trial with a real cross-section

Read the actual consumption after seven days and extrapolate to a month. Replace our assumptions with that number.

4

Compare against the break-even

Divide the seat price by the price per 1,000 credits of your package. With a €9.97 seat that is roughly 1,050 to 2,000 credits per person per month.

5

Compare scope, not only price

Does the team need a secure chat, or AI that works in Slack, Teams, Jira and the CRM? Price only matters between products that do the same job.

Our verdict on nele.ai

nele.ai is a solid choice for organisations that want broad, low-threshold access to many models from a German vendor, with a public DPA, EU-hosted model variants and a monthly entry at €10. For mixed teams with mostly light use, usage-based pricing is cheaper than per-seat licences in our calculations, often clearly.

Look closer if a large share of your team works intensively with premium models (costs rise with every page), if you need a fixed monthly budget, or if your use case goes beyond chat and documents into agents that act in your systems. Then a per-seat platform can be the cheaper or the more fitting option.
